Drugs worth Rs 12 crores seized

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, August 17, 2018: In one of the biggest seizure of drugs in recent times, Assam Rifles has recovered approximate 1.3 Kgs of Brown Sugar and 1,30,000 numbers of WY tablets costing about Rs. 12 crores from L Youjang village located at the Indo-Myanmar border town Moreh, yesterday.
Acting on specific input from Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Imphal regarding presence of contraband in a house at village L Youjang, a team of Moreh Battalion launched a search operation in the area and located the suspected house, said a statement by the Assam Rifles.
The house owner Thangminlen Haokip son of Ngulkhojam Haokip, resident of L Youjang was not found in the house during the search. On thorough checking of the house, the search team found 1.3 Kg of Brown Sugar and 1,30,000 numbers of WY tablets weighing around 12.5 Kg. The approximate market value of the seized items is Rs 12 crore. Recovered items were handed over to DRI Imphal. It is pertinent to mention that the Assam Rifles has been taking resolute steps to make Manipur a drugs free State. Since March, 26 Sector Assam Rifles has seized drugs worth Rs 65 crores approximately from Tengnoupal district, said the statement.
