18 Gold biscuits seized from Imphal

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, August 18, 2018: Gold biscuits worth Rs. 1,06,34,389/- (One Crore six lakh thirty four thousand three hundred eighty nine) have been recovered today in two different cases by Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Division Imphal.
Officers of anti-smuggling unit, Customs Division Imphal, led by the Superintendent yesterday afternoon detected 16 gold biscuits in rectangular form cut from the 1 kg gold bar having marking as “Fine Gold 999.9” of foreign original from four persons, Sanjoy Kumar Krishnani, 32, son of Rajkumar Shyamdas Krishnani of Flat No. 601, Ashirwad Apt. Plot No. 409, Section-3, BOT Section Utharnagar – 4 , Utharnagar, Thana, Maharashtra, Umesh Laxmandas Darda, 32, son of Laxmandas Darda care of Row House No. 32 Siddhivinayakk Vihar, behind A. S Club, Cuido Wahaj, Aurangaroad, Maharashtra, Jayram Parbati Mangani son of Pranabraj Mangalani care of B. K. House No. 876 Room No. 13 Thane, Maharashtra and Harish Nanikaram son of Nanigram Asandas Shringi, care of G-1 popular Sadan Apt block No. A734, Netaji Chowk road near Premnagar Thane, Maharashtra.
They were apprehended at Koirangei Bazar along Imphal – Dimapur road. The persons were carrying the gold pieces in their shoes and stroller bag. They were travelling in a passenger vehicle, TATA Winger. The gold pieces were to be smuggled from Imphal to Dimapur and further to Mumbai by train. The gold pieces weighing 3206.2 gm and it would value Rs. 94,55,084 (Rupees Ninety four lakh fifty five thousand and eighty four).
On another specific information which was recorded almost simultaneously the officers could detect two gold biscuits in rectangular form cut from the 1 kg gold bar having marking as “Fine gold 999.9” of foreign origin from one person identified as Dilip Rajkumar Laljini son of Rajkumar Nangandas Lijini of Flat No. 603 Sai Krishna Apt, Hill Line Behind Prabharani Mandir Ulashnagar – 5, Thane, PS Ulasnagar Maharashtra – 421005 at the North AOC Imphal. He was to travel to Dimapur by a Passenger Tata Winger. The person was carrying the said gold in his cavity (rectum). The gold pieces weigh 399.9 gm which valued Rs. 11,79,305 (Rupees Eleven lakh seventy nine thousand three hundred and five).
The customs officers of anti-smuggling unit, Imphal have sixed the contraband gold total weighing 3606.1 grams value at Rs. 1,06,34,389/- (One Crore six lakh thirty four thousand three hundred eighty nine).
Further investigation of the case is going on, said a press release by Darendrajit Singh, assistant commissioner.
