Manipur PCC cautions government over MU issue

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, September 21, 2018: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has the termed the state action against the Manipur University students and teachers as dictatorial.

It demanded immediate release of the students and teachers who were arrested by the police.

Former chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh told reporters at Congress Bhavan today that “we strongly condemned the raid inside the varsity campus. This dictatorship cannot be tolerated by Congress in this democratic country”, “taking up sudden steps instead of fulfilling the agreement brought with the authorities and varsity community is challenging the career of students while students’ exams are going on in the campus”.

Former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam said, “The act of security forces on the varsity campus is a challenge to democracy which is more serious than declaration of emergency in the state. This reign of terror should be stopped. No force can stand against people’s voice.”
