Contraband item worth Rs 30 lakhs seized

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, September 30, 2018: In continuation of back to back recoveries of contraband drugs, Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) caught 6,000 numbers of WY (world is yours) tablets, found underneath the van hidden near the chassis of the vehicle.

A press statement released by Assam Rifles said on September 29, based on specific input received regarding smuggling of contraband drugs, one silver-coloured Maruti van with registration no AS 11 J 8188 travelling from Moreh to Pallel was stopped at PVCP, Khudengthabi for checking. On thorough checking of baggage and vehicle, quantity 6,000 numbers of WY tablets were found underneath the van hidden near the chassis of the vehicle. On interrogation the apprehendee revealed that he bought the drugs from Namphalong (Myanmar) and was planning to sell in Imphal. Approximate cost of the contraband drug is Rs 30 lakhs. Apprehendee Mr Ashrif Khan, age 23 years son of Mr Ahamad Ali, resident of Moreh Ward No 5 along with recovered item handed over to Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Imphal.
