Students demonstrate over varsity crisis

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, October 3, 2018: Demanding immediate release of Manipur University teachers and students and members of agitating six student organisations about one thousand strong students on Wednesday staged human chain agitation along Tiddim road in Imphal.
Nine students and six teachers of the varsity have been arrested following September 20 midnight police raid on the varsity campus. Demanding to release them the six student organisations All Manipur Students’ Union, Democratic Students’ Alliance Manipur, Kangleipak Students’ Association, Manipur Students’ Federation, Students’ Union of Kangleipak and Apunba Ireipak Maheiroi Singpang Lup have been agitating including the recent 48-hour general strike.
For imposing general strike nine members of the six student organisations were arrested ahead of the general strike.
Demanding to release all who have been arrested in connection with the varsity issue the six student organisations continue to agitate.
The students in protest along the Tiddim road spearheaded by the six student organisation demanded to pull out security forces deployed on the Manipur University campus. They demanded to immediately conclude enquiry against the suspended varsity vice-chancellor, professor Adya Prasad Pandey. The students also demanded to stop taking disciplinary action against the varsity community.
The student organisations reiterated that they will not retreat until justice is served over the varsity crisis. They charge that Pandey was sent to the university to saffronise the university.
