Right to Information Week Celebration launched

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, October 5, 2018: Organised by Manipur Information Commission with the objective of popularizing the RTI Act, 2005 and also to spread mass awareness among the stakeholders information and public relations minister Thongam Biswajit Singh inaugurated Right to Information Week Celebration 2018, today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal.

The event was sponsored by department of personnel and training, ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions.

 Biswajit stated Right to Information Act is an important Act which helps in bringing transparency and accountability for a good governance.

  He asserted that the state government has taken up various steps to curb corruption in the state. He also maintained that we need to control misuse of RTI Act.

Two state information commissioners were newly appointed to strengthen the Manipur Information Commission as RTI Act is very important act. In a democratic country every individual has the right to know the steps taken up by the government, said the minister.

He also welcomed constructive criticism and called upon for contribution for the welfare of the society.

In connection with the celebration, a state level workshop was also held and various resource persons delivered lecture on the RTI Act.

The inaugural session of the celebration were attended by MLA Y. Surchandra Singh, state chief information commissioner, Th.Ibobi Singh, newly appointed state information commissioners Dr S. Ibocha Singh and O. Sunil Singh among others.
