PRJA demand releases of MU agitators

Pothashang News Service: Imphal October 9, 2018: The People’s Resurgent and Justice Alliances(PRJA) along with local womenfolks of Phayeng has protested over the arrest and demanded the immediate release of Popilal Ningthoujam who had voiced over Manipur University unrest.
Making theirs intention clear, the PRJA along with Apunba Meira Paibi members staged a sit-in protest in Phayeng Bazaar, protesting the unfair arrest of Mr. Popilal Ningthoujam.
It can be mentioned that Popilal was arrested over throwing eggs to to the poster of BJP goverment hoarding, to show his displeasure, arising out of the Manipur University fracas.
During the agitation, Phayeng protestors raised slogans and banners which reads as Release Popilal without conditions, Stop Political persecution, Down with dictatorship and Resolve MU crisis amicably.
Mentioned may be made that Parents, residents, and teachers in Phayeng strongly condemned not only the arrest of popilal but also the manner in which he was arrested. Popilal was teaching his small children in a classroom while he was arrested.
Terming the incident as traumatizing for the students, the parents and teacher association and local meira paibi leaders demanded that the state government. under whose direction a suo moto FIR was file against Popilal, along with MU teachers, students, and other activists, to release them as soon as possible without any conditions.
Erendro Leichombam, convener of PRJA said, ‘We have joined the people of Phayeng to protest the arrest of Popilal. Freedom of speech and right to protests are Fundamental rights. The state government should not forget that we are working in a democratic setup not in a dictatorship like North Korea. I therefore demand that PRJA leader Popilal Ningthoujam, along with all those arrested, be released as soon as possible without any conditions’.
