Blast kills one CRPF jawan, injures another

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, October 20, 2018: Blast in busy Imphal city has killed one CRPF personnel and injured another on Saturday at around 6: 15 pm.

The deceased has been identified as Umesh, M. Helavar from Karnataka and the inured jawan is M. Ramarajan from Tamil Nadu. Both of them were constables. Umesh belonged to 145 battalion while Ramarajan belonged to 109 battalion.

Umesh succumbed to injury. Ramarajan was said to be in critical condition.

Both were rushed at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Imphal.

The blast took place inside the CRPF vehicle that was heading for Kanglatombi training camp after collecting supplies from Imphal market.

The blast took place at Nagamapal Phougeisangbam Leikai nearby Ibudhou Moirangpokpa community hall.

Both the deceased and injured jawans were travelling in the back of a truck carrying supplies. The truck was heading towards Kanglatombi training camp after having stocked supplies from Imphal market, said the police. Splinters from the blast also inflicted damaged to two car parked at the road side.

It was uncertain how did the blast occur. However CRPF officials claimed that miscreants suspected to be militant attacked the truck carrying the jawans by hurling a grenade inside the truck.

Police rushed at the blast site and the hospital.

Chief minister N. Biren Singh visited the hospital. He said the authority has launched actions to nab the culprits.
