N. Hazari and Dr N. Tombi Polo tournament underway

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, October 22, 2018: The 34th N. Hazari and Dr. N. Tombi State Polo Tournament was kicked off today at Mapal Kangjeibung (Imphal Pologround) with education, labour and employment minister Thokchom Radheshyam declaring it open.

The tournament is organized by the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association.

In the opening match Thangmeiband Youth Polo Club won the match with four goals against two of Samadon Ayangba Polo Club. The first goal of the Thangmeiband Youth Polo Club was struck by Sarengthem Abung Jersey number 1 in the third chukker. While the other goals of the club were carried out in the fourth chukker by Sarengthem Abung, Kakyenpainam Pandit Jersey number 2 and Sh. Rohin Sharma Jersey number 3.

The two goals of the Samadon Ayangba Polo Club were hit by G. Girimohon Singh Jersey number 1 and H. Herojit Singh Jersey number 2 in the fourth chukker.

The tournament is participated by thirty-one polo clubs of Manipur with thirty matched to be played.

Quoting ‘We Gave the World the Game of Polo’, the minister emphasized that regular matches and tournaments need to be organized to preserve the Pony and popularize the game. He said for the state of Manipur, Polo is not only a game or sport but, is the symbol of tradition. Therefore it is a must that the soul of the game, the Pony, should be nurtured.
