Rocket shell found at Moreh

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, October 22, 2018: An explosive rocket shell was found under a tractor parked near the Moreh bridge near Kondong Lairembi Haraobung planted by suspected militants belonging to an armed rebel group operating in the Indo-Myanmar border town area of Moreh.

People came across the rocket shell in the morning under the parked tractor which is used by Workers and Traders Association Moreh (WATAM) for collecting garbage.

As soon as the news was spread, a team of Police personnel rush at the spot and cordon off the area for safety and hold up vehicular movements along the bridge.

A bomb expert team from Imphal removed the rocket shell at around 2 pm and disposed off at around 2:40 pm at Holenphai village area.

The Moreh highway remained blocked for hours that caused inconveniences to the people.

Members of Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup , Kha- Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup and Workers and Traders Association Moreh staged a sit-in-protest at Ima keithel, Moreh decrying the planting of the bomb at the Moreh Bridge.

One of the protestors said they suspect some miscreants belonging to an armed rebel group might have planted the bomb.

The protestors said that at around 7.30 pm on Sunday some unknown miscreants numbering around 6 to 7 came and vandalized trucks used by WATAM for collection of garbage without giving any reasons.

The miscreants also reportedly acted rough with some of the women folk who had enquired the reasons.

Unable to tolerate the excessive and abusive behaviour of the perpetrators, the women folk and members of WATAM had reported the matter to police, the protestor added.

The protestors held placards embedded with “we are not your enemy”, “don’t terrorize civilians by placing bomb”, do not repeat this kind of acts in future”, etc.
