One day workshop on Organic Cultivation of Chak-hao

Pothashang News Service:  Imphal, October 23, 2018: A one-day workshop on organic cultivation of “chak-Hao” under Mission Organic Value Chain Development, North Eastern Region, ministry of Agriculture and farmers welfare.

It was organised by Manipur Agro-Producers Development Co-operative Society Ltd. Churachandpur and sponsored by MOVCDNER , department of Agriculture, at Thenmuol Community Hall in Churachandpur.

Director of agriculture Ph. Rajendra Singh maintained that the workshop was organised under the initiative of Agriculture Minister V. Hangkhalein and his interest and aim and objective to test, plant and cultivate the unique rice “chak-hao” in various farming lands of about 500 acres in Churachandpur areas.

He said “chak-hao” rice is highly demanded in the national and international markets as the black rice is a very nutritious healthy food.

“Chak-Hao” is grown is different parts of the country and outside states of India but they are not comparable to the “chak-hao” rice grown in Manipur.

Rajendra said that despite various workshop organised in valley districts, many of the farmers fails to comply what the experts and scientists have teach them except for few and appeals the farmers to follow the experts and scientists to avoid the consequences of the current climate and environmental changes.

Staffs of agriculture department Churachandpur, officials of Manipur Organic Mission Agency, farmers and villagers of the Thenmuol village also took part in the workshop.
