Mera Meefam calls for collective effort for promotion of Lai Haraoba

Pothsahang News Service: Imphal, October 28, 2018: Umnag Lai Kanba Apunba Lup, a cultural organisation today organised 10^th edition of Mera Meepham, an annual conference on Umang Lai Haraoba, a traditional ritualistic festival of Manipur, at Chandakriti hall, Palace Compund, Imphal.

The gathering opened with cultural performance of Lai Haraoba tradition was attended by various cultural enthusiasts of Manipur.

The changing culture over the globe, its impact to the traditional Lai Haraoba and means to safeguard the traditional features of the ritualistic festival were discussed in the cultural gathering.

It discussed to preserve the cultural purity from any form of influences.

It is believed that Lai Haroba began in Mera (a month in Meetei/Meitei calendar) at Koubru Haraothel. So we organise Mera Meepham to promote Umang Lai Haraoba and enhance spread the cultural heritage of Manipur to the people over the globe, said a statement of UKAL assistant secretary Dr. Thounajam Ruhichand.
