First Cycle Patrol unit launched

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, November 5, 2018: The first ever Cycle Patrol unit was today launched by Clay Khongsai, IGP Zone I, Manipur at Kakching Police Station, Kakching district, Manipur.

The Cycle Patrol unit came up with an initiative taken up by Yengkhom Victoria, superintendent of police (SP), Kakching district as part of Community Policing.

Clay Khongsai, congratulating the SP for taking such innovative initiative, said that in the context of Manipur it is a good initiative in saving fuel considering the constraints in the police department, better maintenance and interacting with the public which is less intimidating. He added that it is important to focus on the success of the initiative.

It is necessary to monitor the Cycle Patrol unit through GPS installed in their cycle or communication set given to them considering the law and order situation of the state. Improvising from time to time is necessary and publicity is required regarding the achievements of the unit in social media and electronic media which will help in improving the functioning of the unit, he added. He also said it is a great initiative in terms of community policing and also appealed the public to support such an initiative taken up by the police department.

Victoria, said the initiative is taken up under the guidance of her senior officers and is the first of its kind in the state. The Cycle Patrol unit is implemented to strengthen the relationship of the personnel with the community and to enhance public friendly policing. Adding that the patrol unit will not only bring closer relation with the public but also improved the lack of infrastructure of the police department and welfare of the personnel. The total number of cycles to be allotted for the patrolling in the Kakching district is 120. For the first phase 60 cycles were allotted to Sugnu Police station, Kakching Police station and Pallel Police station and also at the outpost of Singtam, Wangoo Lamkhai, Umathel, Langmeidong, Sekmaijin and Kakching, she added.

The launching event was attended by K. Radhashyam Singh, DIG Range II, Manipur and Neilenthang Telien, IAS, deputy commissioner, Kakching district SPs of Thoubal, Tengnoupal, officials of Kakching Police station, local bodies and public also attended the Launching Event of the Cycle Patrol unit.
