Large number of gambling dice confiscated

Pothashang News Service : Imphal, Nov 7, 2018: Imphal West District Police has confiscated large numbers of gambling dice from different areas of Imphal West District. Imphal West Police has conducted various drives to prevent the illegal gambling of dice game (Lagao Khaoba) practice in Manipur during the time of Diwali and Ningol Chakouba festival.
Speaking to media persons, Additional Superintendent of Police (Law & Order) Mr. S. Hemanta Singh said, various drive has been conducted by police personnel belonging to different police stations form the district, including CDO units, traffic police under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Imphal West Mr. H. Jogeschandra. The drives were conducted in order to control and prevent the practice of gambling of dice. As many as 205 sets of gambling dice has been confiscated and Imphal West Police will continue the drives in coming days, he added.
He said, as per the public gambling act and the order issued by Imphal West District Magistrate to ban the illegal gambling of dice in the Imphal West area mainly during the festive season in the state, some individuals indulging in the illegal gambling of dice have been picked up and also action has been taken up as per the law.
He further appealed to the people of Manipur to celebrate Diwali and Ningol Chakouba festival in a peaceful way, as indulging in illegal gambling of dice not only let to loose huge sums of money, but it can lead to various crimes, accident and many other unwanted incidents.
He thanked people of Imphal West District for their support and cooperation. Without the support and cooperation of the general public the drives carried out by the District Police would not have been successful, he added and also wishes people of Manipur for Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba on behalf of the SP Imphal West and Imphal West District Police team.
