Indefinite bandh along NH-2 at Sekmai cut off connectivity

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, November 19, 2018: Indefinite bandh along national highway 2 by three Sekmai area organisations has cut off connectivity with Imphal demanding that Lamsang BJP MLA should tender official apology and terminate his security personnel who were allegedly involved in the assault on Sekmai Protection Committee general secretary on Saturday morning .

The bandh was announced by Sekmai Protection Committee, Awang Sekmai Schedule Caste Development Committee and Advance Women Society Awang Sekmai and stated that it would continue until their demand is fulfilled.

Bandh supporters blocked the highway at Sekmai disallowing all vehicles to travel except those related to emergency services.

Vehicles remained stranded on the road. Many passengers took the road on foot to cross the blockaded area.

Angom (o) Shanti, president of Advance Women Society Awang Sekmai the assault against Sekmai Protection Committee general secretary Laimayum Dhana by security escort of the Lamsang MLA S. Rajen cannot be taken lightly.

Shanti said Rajen threatened to construct the community hall within Sekmai area by bringing an approval letter from the planning department. He threatened to evict the locals of Sekmai who are staying in Leikinthabi Shantipur village, she alleged.

Sekmai locals imposed a bandh along the National Highway demanding unconditional apology from the side of the MLA to the people of Sekmai and suspension of the security escorts involved in the assault.

Chief minister had appealed to the people of Sekmai to suspend the bandh assuring that he will try his best to solve the issue apart from volunteering to take responsibility for the treatment of the victim.
