11 crore worth poppy plants destructed

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, November 20, 2018: A combined team of security force and administrative staff of Kamjong district on Tuesday destroyed around 230 acres of poppy cultivation that would worth around Rs 11 crore.

The poppy plantation destruction operation was conducted at Thawai Kuki hill range and its adjoining area.

The team included of security personnel, comprising of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB), trainees of Manipur Police Training Centre, 4th IRB, 5th IRB, Assam Rifles along with the staff of DC Kamjong and staff of SDM Phungyar, under the supervision of superintendent of police, NAB and Kamjong DC.

The destructed poppies could have yielded around 2300 kilograms of opium said a NAB explained.

The destruction was conduction in continuation of the drive against poppy plantation.

On November 20 a combined team of NAB, NCB, police, forest department and state administrative staff destructed poppy plantations at Sikibong hill range. The plantation here could have yield around 210 kg which would worth around Rs 1 crore and 5 lakh.
