Pothashang News Service: Imphal, November 20, 2018: Solar silk reeling cum spinning machine innovated in Manipur was demonstrated with the launching of the machine use silk spinning project which is implemented by Renu Handloom and Handicraft Co-operative Society Ltd on Wednesday at Hotel Imphal.
It was organised by the co-operative society under the aegis of NABARD.
The solar operated machine which can also be operated with electricity and battery was innovated by Manoharmayum Manihar Sharma, a seventy years old man and recipient of who the 8th National Grassroots Innovation Award.
He had also innovated dryer machine, anti-theft magnetic lock, automatic pump operator and incense stick machine.
Manihar and artisans demonstrated his machines at the function and narrated its capability.
He said he is worried as there is shortage of cocoons in the state. “My machines will demand more cocoons,” he added.
He said his machine can produce the final silk threat at one go. The threat produce by the portable machine will produce superfine threads in less time by its multiplying production process.
“By employing 30 artisans in a unit by providing Rs 10 thousand per month to them, the unit can earn a net profit of Rs 4.5 to 5 lakhs in a month, said Manihar.
Renu Handloom and Handicraft Co-operative Society Ltd was established in 1992. It has 40 branches, 1209 members and 4, 500 artisans.
Renu Arambam, founder secretary of the co-operative society said “Under the roof of our cooperative society artisans from all communities in Manipur are working together”. She appealed the government to guide the cooperative society in the positive direction and appealed all to support artisans and let them work independently without any disturbances from any quarters.
NABARD sanctioned Rs 4 lakh 83 thousand to procure machines from Manihar. To begin the project the machines will be installed in four farms, said Renu.
Social welfare and cooperation minister Nemcha Kipgen said silk production in the state can be increased faster by Renu Handloom and Handicraft Co-operative Society Ltd and Manihar’s machine. What is important is the need to produce abundant cocoons in the state.”
The co-operative society has its own showrooms in Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai besides having in Manipur. It also exports its handloom handicrafts products in Bangaldesh, China, Germany, America etc, said the minister.
She extended her gratitude to the innovator for developing such machine in minimal budget as it will be beneficial for all the weavers of our state.
She appealed all the weavers of Manipur to utilise such machine developed in the state to boost the state’s economy of the state.
The minister appreciated for her selfless determinations and dedication in uplifting the poor and needy through the cooperative society.
