Large people throng Arogya Fair

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, December 6, 2018: Large people thronged on the first day of 4-day Arogya Fair 2018 Manipur at City Convention Centre, Imphal. It was launched today in presence of Union minister of state for Ayush, Shripad Yesso Naik and Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh.
Biren said Manipur accounts for a fraction of a per cent of the total land area of the Earth. However, of the total 10,000 identified medical and aromatic plants found in different parts of the world, Manipur has around 500 varieties.
The state government is targeting with a firm effort to hand over the Ayush Hospital being constructed at Keirao in Imphal East by February next year, said Biren.
Shripad Yesso Naik urged the people of the state to plant medicinal plants instead of poppy and cannabis. Manipur has rich resources of medicinal plants and the ministry is ready to extend all possible support regarding large scale plantation of medicinal plants, he added.
Naik said Ayush doctors and facilities are being provided in health centres of all the states under the National Ayush Mission. Under the mission the central government had approved providing support in setting up of four 50-bedded hospitals in the state i.e. in Moreh, Churachandpur, Lamphelpat and Keirao.
One 10-bedded Yoga and Naturopathy Hospital had been inaugurated at Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai in Imphal West District today, he said.
Ministry of Ayush had also approved setting up of a new Homeopathic College at Keirao in Imphal East District, he said and added that the college will have a Homeopathy Pharmacy and a Drug Testing Laboratory as well. Necessary land had already been acquired for the upgradation of Regional Research Institute (Homeopathy), Imphal as well, he informed.
Altogether 55 stalls were opened to display and launch Ayush products, display of herbal food, for free consultation by Ayush specialists and free distribution of medicines, display of live medicinal plants and products, etc.
Experts from different parts of the country will talk on twenty-four topics during the fair.
Yoga demonstrations for treatment of diseases, public awareness programmes like preparations of home remedy for common diseases, business lecture session and awareness on cultivation of medicinal plants, etc. are the highlights of the fair.
Till 5 pm, 93 patients were attended at National Health Mission, 126 patients at Ayush department stall, 34 patients at Yoga and Naturopathy stall, 50 patients at Ayurveda stall and 42 patients at Unani stall. The stalls were opened till 7 pm.
Health minister L. Jayantakumar said Ayush is a very unique system of health care. It can effectively supplement the Allopathic system in providing health care to people.
