Juvenile Justice Boards serve ultimatum to release funds

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, December 13, 2018: Members of Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs) of different districts of Manipur have today served an ultimatum to release JJB fund by December 20 cautioning that failure of which will invite agitations.

The ultimatum was served to the director of social welfare department on December 13.

It said the members of the boards are taking vital role in handling the cases of Juveniles in Conflict with law as persons who are empowered by law as belonging to the body of presiding officers. Unfortunately, the entitled allowances for the members (JJBs) beginning from the month of April 2017 (90% central share) have not been released until today. Further, the 10% allowances of state share for the JJBs have not been released from the month of April 2016 until today, it added.

Besides, the office maintenance and child related expenses beginning from the month of April 2017 (90% central share) have so far not been released. Further, office maintenance and Child Related Expenses of 10% state share beginning of April 2016 have also not been released. Under this circumstance, the members are beyond capacity to deliver services without any pence to expense for daily needs, said the letter.

The members of all JJBs have conducted a meeting on Thursday at the premise of Juvenile Justice Boards of Imphal East and Tamenglong and resolved to demand to release the pending funds of JJBs.
