SSUM asks Maipur government to sort out issues

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, December 13, 2018: Socialist Students’ Union Manipur (SSUM) has slammed Manipur government for failing to be good governance by sorting out the issues in Manipur which are potting people in trouble.

Speaking to media persons, president SSUM Yaima Meetei asked the Manipur government to sort out the issues prevailing in the state to ease the struggle and hardship faced by the people of the Manipur.

“It is useless to have a government if it cannot solve any state issues and work for the welfare of its people”, said Yaima.

Yaima said, since the state government has so far fails to sort out state issues, SSUM has prepared to call “Leaders’ Meet” to discuss about the state issues and also to carry out various form of movement to safeguard state integrity and its people.

Appreciating the large number of people mostly women and students who took part in the torch rally carried out at various part of the valley districts of the state organised by SSUM on the evening of Nupi Lan Observance Day, Yaima said, the rally organised for the second time was organised with various demand to the government. The first rally was organised on November 22 last year, he added.

“Decommissioning of Thai Barrage and Mapithel Dam, legislation for complete prohibition of alcohol and drugs, settlement of Indo-Myanmar border dispute, immediate halt of all natural resources extraction from the soil of Manipur, protection of the sacred Kangla, preservation and protection of indigenous rituals places, shifting of army camp from Manipur University campus , compensation for farmers who face drought, compensation for farmers of paddy field which have no irrigation channel and framing of a legislation for protection of the Indigenous people of the state,” are the demands of SSUM.

The rally organised by SSUM was supported by the All Metei Pangal Students’ Union of Manipur who also organised the torch rally at various area of Lilong in Thoubal district with the same demand carrying banner with portrait of Hijam Irabot.
