JNIMS teachers take mass casual leave

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, December 27, 2018: Teacher’s Association, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) has cautioned to launch complete shut-down agitation if Manipur government fails to fulfil its ‘long-standing’ demands over promotion by January 3.

The association members took mass causal leave and staged sit-in at JNIMS campus to press over their demand.

The association has been demanding one-time relaxation in the Time Scale Promotion Scheme to accommodate senior residents (SRs), tutors, demonstrators, lady medical officers who are eligible for promotion. If not, then, the word “not more than 50% of the eligible” may be amended to “50% of the sanctioned post of SRs” in regards to the previous notification for Time Scale Promotion of SRs.

It demands cancellation of previous advertisements for recruitment of Asst. Prof. in JNIMS as agreed earlier and no further advertisement for appointment Asst Prof. be made till this issue is settled.

Absorption of tenure senior residents, tutors demonstrators; implementation of Time Scale Promotion Scheme for CMOs (chief medical officers) as per RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences) CMOs Time Scale Promotion Scheme; implementation of Career Advancement Scheme for MBBS and diploma SRs; implementation of the Old (age) Pension Scheme for MHS doctors who joined regular service before January 1, 2005; and implementation of the Time Scale Promotion Scheme for all teaching staffs of JNIMS (such as promotion from assistant professor to associate professor and associate professor to professor).

The special emergency general body meeting of the teachers association held on December 22 followed by an emergency executive body meeting held on December 26 decided that as the JNIMS authorities have failed to give any response to the long standing demands of the association which was passed in the last emergency meeting of the association held on December 14 and duly communicated to the JNIMS authorities.

The teachers association in a statement said the chief minister had in a meeting with the representatives of the association held on October 2 had given verbal assurance to three of the demands –promotion of eligible regular SRs, demonstrator, tutors, medical officers, cancellation of fresh DPC for assistant professors and old pension scheme for eligible employees of JNIMS but the same has not been put into action by the authorities till date.

However, the press note issued by the office of the director JNIMS on December 24has failed to satisfy various resolutions taken by the association, it added.

The general body meeting unanimously agreed to protest the inaction of the authorities.

Keeping in mind of religious sentiments, in an effort to least affect patient care and cause public inconvenience, for the fears of disturbance academic atmosphere and disruption of upcoming examinations, the association had postponed its agitation. It was decided that in any future negotiations in this regard the association will negotiate at the level of the chief minister, president, JNİMS Society with at least one representative from each affected group. It was decided to request the authority to cancel the ongoing recruitment process of various faculty posts in the Dental college, JNIMS until the present issues are resolved, said the statement by the teachers association.
