Minister Shyamkumar appeals for balance reporting

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, January 6, 2019: Manipur forest and environment minister Th. Shyamkumar appealed the journalist for balance reporting on the 44th foundation day celebration of Manipur Press Club held at the club premise today.
He made the appeal stating that the media has a big role in promoting good governance in the state stating that the aspects of good governance are facilitated by a strong and independent mediascape within a society.
The minister said good governance is possible only when journalists are free to examine, investigate and criticise the public administration.
As media highlights the merit and demerit of governance it should also highlight the good work of the people, he added.
Director of Directorate of Information and Public Relations Heisnam Balkrisna Singh said the directorate is committed and working for the welfare of the media persons. He announced that non-subscriber senior media persons will be covered under the Manipur State Journalists’ Pension Scheme with one time relaxation.
He also announced that an insurance policy is in the pipeline for the hawkers of the state and invited genuine suggestions from the journalists.
Brozendro Ningomba, president of the journalist union spoke on the decline in the ethics and discipline among few journalists. He advised the journalists here to follow discipline and ethics in order to succeed in life and for development of the society.
Floral tributes were offered to the departed journalists of the state.
Veteran journalists and families of the departed journalists were honoured.
