24-hr general strike from Wednesday midnight

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, January 29, 2019: Manipur People Against Citizenship Amendment Bill’ (MPACAB), a committee of 64 civil society organisations declared 24-hour general strike from January 30 midnight opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019.

The committee was formed on Monday at Sangai Hall of Imphal Hotel during an emergency leaders’ meet of civil society organisations from various parts of the state.

The emergency meeting on the citizenship bill was organised by United Committee Manipur,

All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation, Committee of Civil Society Kangleipak, Ethno Heritage Council and League of Indigenous People Upliftment.

Apex bodies of tribal organisations Kuki Inpi Manipur, Zeliangrong Union Manipur Assam and Nagaland, United Vaiphei Social Forum Council, Kabui Mother’s Association, Kuki Women Union Manipur, Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation, All Manipur Muslim Development Committee, Kom Union, Komrem Youth Organisation Manipur, Indigenous Minority Organisation Manipur, All Tribal Students Union Manipur, Komrem Union Manipur were present among others.

President of Zeliangrong Union Amu Kamei appealed the people of the state to leave the differences but unite to protect the state. The Zeliangrong people of Manipur, Assam and Nagaland are ready to fight against the citizenship bill.

He appealed the political parties to stand for the state first instead of protecting their parties.
