Materials of Ashagee Mangal distributed

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, January 30, 2019: The 2nd phase (Group B) materials distribution of ‘Ashagee Mangal’ livelihood project was held today at Lamyanba Sanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal. The distribution of the materials was organised by Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur state branch under the sponsorship of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and International Red Cross Society, National Head Quarter (IRCS-NHQ), New Delhi.

Expressing her happiness to be with the widow beneficiaries, governor Najma Heptulla said the material distribution programme under “Ashagee Mangal” (light of hope) livelihood project carries a lot of significance for all of us. She added that the selected widows will get positive light of hope and extended her best wishes for their future.

She saidthe Indian Red Cross Society has also been working over the years to create and foster a spirit of understanding among the people of the world, to promote the principles of good governance and good citizenship. She said the Red Cross Society has become synonymous with selfless humanitarian service to the people.

Expressing her confidence that the widows will certainly be able to generate income for their subsistence out of the help received from the Red Cross Society, she praised the IRCS, for the humanitarian and noble service rendered towards the needy especially the widows.

Heptulla also said that it is a matter of great satisfaction to know that the present programme to be implemented in the four valley districts of Manipur namely, Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal targeting five hundred economically vulnerable Women Headed Households is one of the biggest taken up by the state branch under the International Committee of Red Cross and Indian Red Cross Society – National Head Quarter supporting it. She also noted that the Red Cross Society, Manipur Branch will also promote the livelihood project with similar activities in other districts of the State in due course.

She said the Red Cross Society, Manipur Branch is distributing grant-in-aid to another 90 beneficiaries before September apart from the 66 beneficiaries selected for the second phase for the current year, 2019. She said that she had firm belief that the society will continue with their activities for the welfare of needy and unfortunate people in the coming years also.

Altogether 66 beneficiaries selected from the four valley districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal in various trades were provided power looms, sewing machines etc., for the 2nd phase.
