Assam Rifles brings solar power to Samtal

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, February 4,, 2019: Sehlon Battalion of Assam Rifles operationalised the provision of 80 solar panel electricity sets in the villages of Samtal Salient thereby ensuring that 80 families get electricity in their households.

Villages of Samtal Salient are situated in isolated exteriors of Chandel district which has no electricity, road connectivity and basic amenities. Although villages were being supplied with electricity from the generators of Sehlon Battalion, the battalion envisaged the idea of liaising with Luminious India Pvt Ltd for provision of solar panel electricity sets to make the villagers self-reliable in terms of electricity. After continued awareness efforts and perseverance of officers of Sehlon Battalion, the provision of 80 solar panel electricity sets along with invertors and batterys for each house in villages of Samtal Salient was formalised today.

The solar panel electricity sets have successfully electrified the houses of 80 families in the region. A ray of hope has been kindled in the hearts of the local population which exudes a belief that self sustainability in terms of electrification of the Samtal Salient is not a distant dream any more. Rightly so, the villagers have expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards the Assam Rifles for having enlightened their lives, said a press statement by Assam Rifles.
