MoA signed for procurement of Organic Ginger

Imphal, 14 February, 2019 (DIPR): Under the supervision of the Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA), a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed between the NERAMAC (North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited) and Loulhoumi Organic Producer Company Ltd and Nahakpam Food and Beverage and The Manipur Agro Producer Co-operative Society Ltd for procurement of 1000 MT (metric tonne) ginger each. The MOA was signed in presence of the Horticulture and Soil Conservation Minister Shri Thounaojam Shyamkumar.

Addressing the mediapersons at his office chamber at New Secretariat, Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar said the NERAMAC today signed an agreement with the Loulhoumi Organic Producer Company Ltd based in Churachandpur for buying 1,000 MT ginger. On the other hand, Nahakpam Food and Beverage also signed an agreement with The Manipur Agro Producer Co-operative Society Ltd for procuring 1,000 MT ginger, he added.

He said that MOMA under the Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department has been successful in selling organic produces/products to other companies and supporting the organic farmers in finding a profitable market place. He opined that the step will help the organic farmers in increasing their income and improve their livelihood.

Lauding the officers of MOMA, he said it had earlier sold organic produces like pineapple, chakhao (black aromatic rice), king chilli and ginger to other companies. He also appealed to the unregistered organic farmers of the State to get registered under the MOMA to ease their problems and increase their income.

MOMA is the implementing agency in the State for the central scheme Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCD-NER).

The signing of agreement was also attended by Shri JC Ramthanga, Principal Secretary (Horticulture and Soil Conservation), Shri K. Kipgen, Director, Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department, Shri K. Debadutta Sharma, Project Director, MOMA along with the department officers.
