Congress candidates promise for welfare and development

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, March 24, 2019: Lok Sabha candidates for Manipur K. James (Outer Manipur) and Oinam Nabakishore (Inner Manipur) promise to work for welfare and development of Manipur.
Congress party announced its candidates yesterday night. It was informed by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaikhangam in a news conference held at Congress Bhawan today.
Former Manipur chief secretary Oinam Nabakishore Singh said he joined politics to participate in the decision making of the Government of India and address the problems and issues of Manipur.
“If I am elected I would work for the economic development of Manipur and promote Manipur culture and identity. I will work for improve of education and people’s skill and emhance productive activities”, Nabakishore said.
Former finance officer of higher education department K. James said, “I will work to empowe weaker section of the society and work to strengthen peace and harmony among the people of hills and valley.”
The candidates were handed authority letter to contest as candidates for INC by Gaikhangam and
Manipur Congress LegislatureParty leader Okram Ibobi Singh.
Ibobi said they are prepared to file their nomination papers tomorrow.
He said the agenda of the Congress is to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill, to restore special category status and the industrial policy of the region and to generate employment opportunities among others.
Ibobi clarified that the sitting Outer Manipur MP Thangso Baite have decided to contest in the state Assembly election and Inner Manipur MP Thokchom Meinya have served as an MP for three terms. Meinya is an important Congress leader, he may be nominated as Rajya Sabha MP if Congress to power, Ibobi added.
He appealed the people to support Congress in the coming election.
Elections for Outer Manipur and Inner Manipur have been scheduled on April 11 and 18 respectively.
