Drivers warn not to drive in election

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, March 30, 2019: Transporters and drivers body today warned that vehicles will not be provide in the coming Lok Sabha election if the government fails to clear due payment of  Rs 88,44,670 by April 7.

President of transporter’s and drivers’ council, H. Ranjit Singh cautioned the state government during a news conference held at its M.G. Avenue office today.

Ranjit said last year the state government hired142 vehicles from Manipur Truck Owners’ Welfare Association to import fertilizers in the state. With the interest of farmers the association transported 44,426 fertilizer bags from Railhead Jiribam to Imphal where most the grievances of the farmers were overcome during the late season, he added.

The grievances of the farmers have fulfilled but the hiring charge of 143 vehicles of the association which amounts of Rs. 88,44,670 has not been paid so far. The association have submitted several letters and reminders to the director of department but the state fails to pay the aforesaid bill amount till date without any cogent reason, he added.

He appealed the government and department to clear the bill before the deadline so that the drivers provide smooth services.
