Battle of Kanglatongbi remembered

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, April 9, 2019: The Platinum Jubilee Commemoration of Battle of Kanglatongbi was observed on Sunday, the 7th April at Kanglatongbi War Memorial. It was organised by Army Ordnance Corps in association with 2nd World War Imphal Campaign Foundation (2WWICF) and Manipur Tourism Forum (MTF) in honour to the brave soldiers of the 221 Advance Ordnance Depot who sacrificed their lives during the 2nd World War. The battle was fought on the adjoining night of 6th and 7th April in 1944 at Kanglatongbi.

The kin of martyred British soldiers, veteran Officers, descendants of Indian soldiers and current Lt Gen Dalip Singh, VSM, DGOS & Senior Colonel Commandant of Ordnance Corps including other Senior Officers of the Ordnance Corps laid wreaths at the Kanglatonbi War Memorial Monument.

As part of the Platinum Jubilee Commemoration of Battle of Kanglatongbi, a special cover was also released by Lt Gen Dalip Singh, VSM, DGOS & Senior Colonel Commandant, Ordnance Corps which was followed by tree plantation.

Later the dignitaries, kin of the British soldiers and descendants of Indian Martyrs visited the Kanglatongbi Children Home (Orphanage) and donated study materials and games and sports items.

    Visiting Imphal tomorrow for the first time after a wait for 40- yrs.
    Very much looking forward to see the INA Museum at Moirang and war memorials / Cemeteries of the Indian solders who laid their lives for our country against the Japanese.
