Mapithel dam – 1 of 3 body found at Chadong

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, May 2, 2019: Villagers found one body out of the three bodies that were submerged in the Chadong lake of Ukhrul on April 28 due to Cyclone Fabulous.

On that day the storm capsized  two local made boats carrying 12 picnickers at the Chadong lake created by Mapithel dam. Nine were rescued, but three went missing.

Special divers of  National Disaster Response Force  NDRF has been carrying out rescue operations using sophisticated equipment along with large number of rescuers from  NDRF,  State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire department and team of experts from Manipur University Earth Sciences department. Later, the rescue operation was joined by  a team of Indian Navy.

The deceased person who was recovered today has been identified as S. Rajiv, 35.

The other two which remain untraceable are  S. Romen, 29, and N.Rani, 18 from Ningthoukhong Kha Kgunou of Bishnupur district.

Vice-chairman of the Manipur State Disater Management  Authority said he hopes to get the two bodies soon.
