DESAM demands action against currupt teachers

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, May 24m 2019: Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has demanded the  Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM), Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COSHEM) and education department to probit teachers involving in confidential exam matters from teaching at coaching centres.

If such teachers are found teaching at coaching centers the concern authority must take a provision to take necessary action against those teachers, secretary general of DESAM, Shital Oinam said during a press conference held today at its Sagolband Moirang Leirak office in Imphal.

To bring a change in quality education DESAM and Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) have been jointly taking necessary steps including inspection of schools. With the pace of time scenario of examination have been changing. He said mock examination and revision courses are conducted at coaching centers by teachers involved in confidential matters of BOSEM and COSHEM. Such teachers are question setters, question modulators and head of examiners, he alleged.

Such trends have been continuing in order to get more profit for the coaching centers owned by those teachers. The student bodies consider those teachers as destroyers of student’s mentality and one of the factors for demoralizing the students, he added.

 He urged the authority to take necessary action against those teachers to bring quality education.

Citing an example Shital said in the recent class XII examination conducted by COSHEM, the student bodies found similar questions in English subject at advance writing skill section of recent COSHEM class XII examination compared with mega mock test question paper of ‘Tony Coaching Center’.

He said the coaching center is owned by one Leiphrakpam Tony Singh who is a teacher in Johnstone Higher Secondary School. The student bodies enquired about the similarities of questions found in mega mock test and question paper in class XII examination conducted by COSHEM. Tony failed to give a valid reason during the enquiry, he added.

Such incident usually occurs when both BOSEM and COSHEM sent the confidential letters indirectly to the teachers. He urged the authority concern to send the confidential letters directly to the teachers.

Shital urged the authority concern to form an enquiry committee against Tony to find the truth. ‘Tony Coaching Center’ will be banned indefinitely till the completion of the process of enquiry, he added.
