Ranjan bats to protect Manipur from CAB

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, May 24, 2019: Newly elected MP from from Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency RK Ranjan of BJP said he will take active role in pursuing the matter for protection of northeast states from the purview and impact of the citizenship bill.

Ranjan said the citizenship amendment bill introduced in the parliament has lapsed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Rajnath Singh had assured to uphold the interest of the north eastern states. At the same time, BJP, in its election manifesto, had promised to protect the culture and language of the northeast people. As such, there is nothing to worry from the Bill, he added.

He said being a representative of Manipur he will take active role in pursuing the matter for protection of northeast states from the purview and impact of the Bill.

Ranjan expressed his vision to build a tall Levy Tower in the state with names of the 500 soldiers of Manipur Levy inscribed on it in honour of the role played by the Levy.

He said Manipur was under Burmese rule during the Seven Years Devastation. To free from the Burmese oppression the then Kings, Maharaj Gambhir Singh and Maharaj Nara Singh with the help of the British constituted the levy of Manipur and liberated the New Manipur, he added.

He expressed his desire to establish two lake cities on Loktak; one at Thanga Karang side and another at Mayang Imphal side. “There is floating market in Bangkok. Why can’t we have it here”, he said.

The floating market will promote eco-tourism while having wet land park. New concept, new facility and new infrastructure could be developed at Loktak, he said.

Ranjan defeated his nearest rival Congress candidate O. Nabakishore by 16, 830 votes. He got 2, 61, 802 votes.
