NSCN (I-M) camp busted

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, May 29, 2019: An undesignated camp of militant group, NSCN (I-M), was busted on May 25 at Todaijang village by security forces, said a release by PIB (Defence Wing).

It said acting on reports regarding NSCN (I-M) cadres camping in Todaijang village and carrying out illegal extortion from the innocent villagers, security forces launched a well coordinated operation on the night of May 24. However, seeing the troops advancing toward their camp, the cadres fled leaving huge amount of arms, ammunition, tentages, uniforms and other military stores in the said camp,” security force personnel reported, it added.

It is evident that NSCN (IM) is not serious about the Ceasefire Agreement as it continues to target innocent villagers and civilians, and is trying to extend its reach outside the ‘Taken Note of Camps’ in Manipur, the release said.

All residents of Todaijang and nearby villages conveyed their gratitude and appreciation to the security forces in controlling this menace of NSCN(I-M), wherein now they can lead a fearless life and will be able to spend their hard earned money on themselves rather than paying to some militant outfit, it added.

Villagers also informed that NSCN (I-M) is trying to falsely blame security forces for destruction of huts and troubling locals in the village, it stated. One of the village head appealed to everyone, not to fall prey to the propaganda by NSCN (I-M) and provide full support to security forces, it continued. The Security Forces are working closely in synergy with police, intelligence agencies, civil administration and the local populace to identify such incidents, it said.

Immediate action is being taken to identify and dismantle such undesignated NSCN (I-M) camps in Manipur and to stop the atrocities and illegal activities of these cadres, tge rekease added.
