Assam Rifles ovserves World Environment Day

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, June 6, 2019:  Keithalmanbi Battalion of 9 Sector AR observed World Environment Day by organising a series of activities at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhalaya and nearby areas. The event commenced with an informative lecture on importance of trees followed by a tree Plantation Drive in which saplings were planted by the students, teachers and troops in nearby areas. The event witnessed the attendance of over 80 students, staff and troops.
Mantripukhri Battalion of 9 Sector AR observed World Environment Day by organising a rally against pollution and promoting renewable energy sources at Leisemba Maheikol School, Chingaril. The rally commenced from Leisemba Maheikol School and culminated at Sawombung Bazar. The rally witnessed participation of over 210 students, staff and troops.
Thoubal Battalion of 9 Sector AR celebrated World Environment Day by reaching out to the remote areas of Chandrakhong, Uper khoripok and Thoubal and organising a mega tree plantation drive. In addition, the locals were also educated on the importance of trees for coming generations and motivated the youth for planting saplings to save environment.  The event witnessed participation of over 200 locals including children and women.

Tulihal Battalion of 9 Sector AR organised a Tree Plantation Drive at Wangoi Higher Senior Secondary School, Mayang Imphal. As part of the event a Drawing and Painting competition on the theme of “World Environment Day” was organsied for the students followed by a Tree Planting Drive. Importance of trees and saving the environment through plantation was emphasized upon. The children and troops of COB voluntarily planted saplings in the area and pledged their contribution to make the environment clean and Green for future generations.

Joupi Battalion of 28 Sector AR celebrated the day at Aibol Joupi. Celebration included plantation of saplings like Tree Bean (Yongchak), Amla and Blue Berries (Jamun). Approximate 350 sapling of all kinds were planted during the event followed by a lecture on preservation of environment and effect of climate due to uncontrolled deforestation.

A plantation drive was organized by Kakching Battalion of 28 Sector AR celebrating the theme “Go green” at Serou village, Kakching District on. Nearly five hundred saplings were planted in and around Serou village by Kakching Battalion in collaboration with local villagers and Gram Panchayat of Serou village.

A plantation drive was organised jointly by Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector AR and the villagers of the Nungourok village. Troops also conducted a lecture on Rain Water Harvesting. In addition Pallel COB conducted lecture on pollution control and advised the villagers to restrict the use of polythene in day to day life. Villagers were also informed about the water borne diseases, malaria and precautions to avoid them. Chandel Battalion of 26 Sector AR organised a plantation and cleanliness drive in Chandel town, Pallel and Machi. A series of events were organised to mark the day in conjunction with the locals including Japhou Bazar Board Association, Chandel Football Friends, other NGOs and District Forest Department. The AR troops along with Chandel Town authorities and villagers planted around 400 saplings across Chandel town.

The observance of World Environment Day by Assam Rifles in conjunction with the locals was highly appreciated. Troops of Assam Rifles pledged their continuous support to save and protect the environment.
