First Food Safety Day
Pothashang News Service: Imphal, June 7, 2019: Commemorating the first ever World Food Safety Day, State Food Safety Authority, Manipur today observed food safety day under the theme “Food Safety, everyone’s business” at Medical Directorate Board hall, Lamphelpat, Imphal.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations General Assembly in December 2018 declated June 7 as the World Food Safety Day.
Health services director and additional food safety commissioner, Dr. K. Rajo said unsafe food is a threat to human health and we must take precautionary measures. He urged the concerned officials to check properly the labels mentioned in packaged food items for the safety of the public.
He appealed to all the designated officers to strictly regulate the food industry towards preventing avoidable crises. It is necessary to organize maximum public awareness in propagating the message of safe food habit, he added.
Designated officer of Imphal East, T. Brojendro Khaba Meitei, designated officer of Imphal West, Y. Satyajeet Singh, and additional director, medical directorate, Dr. Sashee Kumar Mangang attended the function as Guest of honour among others.
Quoting that ‘If it is not safe, it is not food’, Y Satyajeet Singh cautioned the public that the public should not take it for granted that the food consumed is safe.
On the occasion, a pledge on World Food Safety was also administered.
