Organisations caution bandh in hills
Pothashang News Service: Imphal, June 9, 2019: Social organisations have cautioned to impose bandh in hill areas if the maintenance of Imphal-Tamei road is not taken up in this month.
The road maintenance work has been taken up by locals inhabited at the surroundings of the roadside due to overlook by North Eastern Council (NEC) since the past two years.
Imphal- Tamei road, about 75 kilometer from Kangpokpi headquater has been neglecting by both state and NEC for the last two years. Due to the reason people from the area are facing much grievances in order to reach Imphal, alleged the voluntary organisations.
Secretary of Joint Monitoring and Development Committee (JMDC), IT road, W. Karangambou told reporters that people of the area have been facing grievances due to worst road condition. To renovate the road JMDC had urged the local MLAs and government during the last rainy season.
During the meeting with government elected persons replied that maintenance of the road is under NEC and government cannot interfere in the renovation work. But government gave verbal assurance to start renovation of the road two years back. However no steps have been started till date, he added.
More than 100 villagers are using the road for livelihood daily and both government and NEC have been ignoring for maintenance.
Karangambou said JMDC have resolved in a general meeting that if the renovation fail to start by end of June whether by the authority the committee along with social organisations of all Manipur tribal area will call indefinite bandh on hill areas of Manipur, he cautioned.
The Imphal-Tamei road passes through four constituencies namely Kangpokpi, Tamei, Tadubi and Saitu.
