IMC suspended for 6 months

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, July 16, 2019: Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) has been suspended for six months with effect from Monday for financial irregularities and abuse of power.

A suspension order was issued by the joint secretary, Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD), Ksh. Lemba Singh on behalf of the Governor.

The order said, “Upon lapses committed by IMC, the government is of the opinion that IMC is not competent to perform its duties and has exceeded and abused its powers”.

The government had examined the report of the local fund audit dated January 14, 2019 regarding special audit inspection on IMC; it added

According the department on July 3 issued a show cause notice with a direction to give explanation and clarification regarding various financial irregularities, violation of guidelines, diversion of funds, irregularities in installation of Solar Lamp etc, the order said

However, the MAHUD found the written reply furnished by the IMC not satisfactory and approximately explained the charges leveled against the corporation.
