Pothashang News Service: Imphal, July 30, 2019 : Minister for water resources Letpao Haokip on Tuesday inspected various irrigation sites of the Khuga Multi-purpose Project (Khuga Dam) in Churachandpur district.
Letpao and circle MLA V. Hankhalian and top officials of the department were also present in the inspection.
The team first reached the root of the right canal of the dam. Later, the minister inspected Lungshiphai, a downstream section of the left canal of the dam, and also the Bohlui canal.
Letpao said cultivation to a large area of the district was rendered unsuccessful due to water scarcity, but there will be no shortage of water and hence cultivation will be good this season. This is all because of the irrigation provided to over 1000 hectares of land provided by this dam, he added.
He thanked the PHED department for providing necessary pipes for ensuring irrigation to deserving areas, and also to the farmer associations of the district for their enthusiasm.
The arrangement of irrigation at these three canals cost only around Rs 19 lakhs and is a good example of how big cost is not always mandatory if the there is efficiency in planning and if the manpower involved are capable, the minister said.
