Government’s irresponsibility invites agitations: Joykishan

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, August 11, 2019: Thangmeiband MLA has blamed the government for the present agitations in Manipur in connection with the death of a class VII girl student at a boarding in a school in Imphal on July 18.

“The present chaos is due to irresponsibility of the government on solving the case and cannot be blamed on the people. Since the investigation of the case was initiated no suspects in connection with the death of the student has been arrested,” Joykishan told reporters on Saturday.

“Some of the school authorities were arrested not in connection with her death, but for irresponsibility on school management,” he added.

In local dailies it is mentioned that the cause of death is due to hanging and points towards suicide. Whether the cause of death is suicide or homicide government must give post mortem report to the family members. If it is suicide then why marks on her chin and bruises are not mentioned in the report, said the Thangmeiband Constituency representative.

Joykishan said the government does not bother to handle the case seriously, and hence, no suspects in connection with the incident have been arrested so far. Instead of solving the case and booking the culprits the government is trying to divert the case, he added.

The present government has been chanting that changes has been bringing with the inception of the new government. Many members of Thangmeiband United Club (TUC), the people’s joint action committee (JAC) formed in connection with the “mysterious” death of the student and others are giving threat breaching house to house by police, he said.

The father of the deceased said the allegation made by police personnel that the untimely death of the student might be due to broken family is baseless. He said family members are staying together with peace and harmony and there is no question of broken family.

The investigation is trying to mislead the issue by blaming the family as a broken family. If police want to examine family members as a part of investigation the investigating team is welcome to find solution in connection with the incident, he added.

Step mother of the deceased said as a mother she condemned for blaming the cause of death might be due to broken family. She said though she is a barren woman she takes care of the step daughter with love and affection.

Demanding to give justice and bring the truth TUC along with JAC has been agitating. The bodies have been demanding for speedy investigation. In connection with the present issue 10 members of JAC and TUC have let themselves to be arrested to police as a part of the agitation. When another 20 members came out on the street in Imphal in continuation of the mass court agitation police dispersed the members instead of arresting them.

In a press release the JAC stated that JAC demand speedy investigation from the government in order to solve the case.

TUC had announced a reward of Rs. 5 lakh to the individual or groups who can give information in connection with the case.
