Leaders wish people for peace and integrity on Independence Day

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, August 14, 2019: On the eve of the 73rd Independence Day Manipur governor Najma Heptulla, chief minister N. Biren Singh and ministers extended their greeting to the people of Manipur and appealed all to work for peace and integrity.
Heptulla in her greetings said during the last more than 70 years of independence, India has made strides in all fields and is aiming to be in the comity of leading nations of the world, and everyone today must take a pledge to work for providing all with the support they need for sustenance and becoming responsible citizens. “I sincerely urge all citizens to work together and bring emotional integrity and ensure that every part of the country is developed equally so that there is no sense of discrimination,” she added.
Biren in his greetings said, “After 200 years of foreign rule, India became free on August 15, 1947. Our freedom was earned through the sweat and sacrifices of the great leaders of India’s struggle for freedom. Today, we remember them and the ideals they set before us to achieve in the days ahead despite being set free of the rule of the British imperialists, our country is yet to be completely free of the chains of communalism, regionalism, linguism, gender disparity and the likes. We cannot call ourselves civilised if these chains continue to imprison us in dungeons of darkness. Let us resolve that we will fight these thoughts and practices, wherever they are, and whatever form they take, and not rest until we break free of these issues. Let us also celebrate this Independence Day by committing ourselves to create an atmosphere of love and mutual understanding and work for ensuring peace, progress and prosperity in the state and the country
