Drug smugglers arrested with brown sugar and opium

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, September 4, 2019: Manipur police commandoes arrested two drug smugglers from Dolaithabi project area on Thursday and seized drugs worth about Rs 3.4 crores.
The smugglers were identified as one Seilal Touthang, 35, son of Hemngam Touthang of Phaijang village, Saikul and Haokhomang Khongsai, 30, son of Songhao Khongsai of Naphai village, Saikul.
Superintendent of police, Imphal East, Jogeshchandra during a press conference held on Thursday evening at his office in Imphal East said acting on a reliable information at about 1.30 pm by the Imphal East district commandos about the presence of anti-social elements in and around Dolaithabi Multipurpose Project area a district police team conducted frisking and checking in and around the area and detained the two smugglers as suspects, he added.
After interrogation and checking 1 kg 840 gm of brown sugar, 9 kg of opium (Kani), two scooters (Honda Active) and one mobile phone were recovered.
The smugglers revealed that the recoveries drugs were purchased from Kangpokpi district and were about to deliver to one prospective buyer, Jogeshchandra said.
The smugglers along with the seizures have been handed over to Sagolmang police station for further necessary legal action, he added.
