22 outsiders will perform Manipuri Classical dance on Sunday

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, October 20, 2019: Twenty two artistes from outside Manipur will demonstrate Manipuri classical dance on Sunday at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, here.

Manipuri classical dancer Latasana Devi told reporters that the dance performance will be demonstrated on International Classical Manipuri Dance Festival organised by Sanarpam.

Samarpan is organising the festival to showcase the upcoming and established Manipuri dance pratitioners from different parts of India and Bangladesh in the place of origin of Manipur dance.

Manipuri dance performer Poushali Chatterjee said classical dancers outside Manipur are keen with the dance form as classical Manipuri dance is popular as very lyrical, graceful, and devotional. The dance movements are subdued, executed with restraint and poise Abhinaya in nature, suggestive and dignified. Many dancers are interested to learn the dance form apart from other famous classical dances in India, she added.

She said young Manipuri dancers in and outside Manipur are presenting new productions and items taking different themes and interpreting through dance movements inspiring from different dance forms existing in Manipur.
