Pregnant Murrah buffaloes distributed

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, November 12, 2019: The department of veterinary andnimal husbandry on Tuesday distributed pregnant Murrah Buffalo (Heifers) to 25 selected beneficiaries of Senapati district during a function held at ICDP complex, Porompat in Imphal East.
Veterinary director Dr. H. Chaoba informed that riverine buffalo (Murrah buffalo) has high yield of milk more than swamp buffalo found in Manipur. Milk is a protein, minerals and vitamin rich food which is a precious gift of God, it is more or less a balanced food to stay healthy.
He told reporters that a training programme for proper rearing of Murrah buffalo will be organised for the beneficiaries of Senapati district shortly. Remaining pregnant murrah buffaloes will also be distributed to the beneficiaries of Kangpokpi, Churachandpur and some parts of Bishnupur district covered under 2nd instalment of the project, he added.
He appealed the beneficiaries to well feed and properly nourishe the pregnant buffaloes to get more milk.
The 2nd instalment of pregnant Murrah buffaloes were distributed as part of the project funded by North Eastern Council (NEC) under Ministry of DoNER to promote “adoption of milch buffalo in and around Loktak” and to encourage milk production in order to generate income in the state.
