30 gold biscuits seized

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, November 14, 2019: Anti-smuggling unit of Customs Division, Imphal has seized 30 gold biscuits of foreign origin along with a passenger bus that was transporting the gold, from North Sekamai along Imphal-Dimapur road on Wednesday.

The gold biscuits were recovered from the box above the driver’s seat of the bus that bore registration number MN04P 0629.

The gold biscuits weigh 4980 grams and the value would be over Rs 1 crore and 87 lakhs, assistant commissioner, Customs Division, Imphal, Modoli Daso said in a press statement released on Thursday.

One person, Bhim Bahadur, 36, son of late Purna Singh, resident of Molkon village, Senapati, presently residing at Chingamakha Maibam Leikai, Singjamei has been arrested in connection with the gold smuggling.

The smuggled gold biscuits were to be taken to Guwahati, Daso said.
