General strike on December 19

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, December 15, 2019: Left parties comprising of CPI, CPI-M, RSP and Forward Block has called general strike in Manipur on December 19 during 6 am – 6pm as part of the nationwide general strike imposed by the Left parties demanding to take back the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.

Secretary of CPI, Manipur, L. Sotinkumar made the announcement of the strike during a press conference held at Irawat Bhawan here on Saturday.

He alleged that the BP led NDA government for passing the Citizenship  (Amendment) Bill without taking into consideration the interest of the people and the possible consequences.

The Left parties condemned the ‘excessive police brutality’ against protesters in Assam and Tripura that had claimed five lives.

Sotinkumar said Inner Line Permit system will not safeguard the indigenous people from the Citizenship Amendment Act.
