‘Fuel oil distribution will be normal from Thursday’

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, December 18, 2019: Consumer affairs food and public distribution minister Karam Shyam on Wednesday said the Manipur government had rationalised the oil (particularly diesel and petrol) distribution to the consumers of Manipur for about 3 days as a corrective measure to check the monopolization of these fuels by the proprietors, businessmen and other agents arising as an outcome to the recent riots and chaotic situation at Assam in connection with the Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA) 2019.

Shyam told reporters here that the oil normalisation will start from Thursday as 25 petrol trucks, 42 diesel trucks, 3 SK oil trucks, 53 LPG and 5 trucks carrying petrol-diesel mixture in total have arrived on Wednesday. The current status of oil for distribution to the public is now manageable with the old stock of oil along with the current stock, he added.

He also appreciated the public for patiently co-operating with the inconvenience caused by the current oil crisis.

The petrol capacity of Malom Oil Depot is about 5592 kilolitres while that of HS diesel is around 10,980 kilolitres. Petrol can be put in stock for 15 days while diesel is usually kept in stock for abut 20 days, the minister said.

Minister Shyam also mentioned that petrol-diesel transportation is more convenient via the Jiri line rather than the Dimapur route as Dimapur National Highway roads are at present under widening process.

He also apologized for the inconvenience to the people of the state for around 3-4 days due to oil rationalisation.
