Zarda abstainer women honoured

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, December 30, 2019: Women who do not munch Zarda (tobacco) pan were honoured on Monday by Lamding Educated Welfare Association (SEWA) to encourage women abstaining from the habit of tobacco use.

Altogether 29 women who have been residing in Lamding Khumanthem Leikai and married in or before 2011were presented with woollen stole to honour them.

Sewa president S. Ojit said the present society is in crucial stage with youth addicted to drugs including Heroin No. 4 and World is Yours tablets; women at large consume tobacco; and elderly people become alcoholics.

The Manipur society will be drowned in the sea of drugs if the tradition of consuming liquor and tobacco in social occasions are prohibited, he added.
