Pothashang News Service: Imphal, February 3, 2020: The Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur officials on Monday received 3rd position award for exemplary performance in implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) scheme during Matru Vandana Saptah.
Manipur has been selected for the award in the category of states/Union territories having population of less than one crore. Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Sikkim bagged the first and second position respectively under this category.
Social welfare director Ng. Uttam Singh and deputy secretary, social welfare, Manipur, Dr. Sonia Oinam received the award from Union minister of women and child development, Smriti Irani at an award function held in New Delhi, said a DIPR statement.
Minister Irani appreciated improvement in enrolment from 29% to 71% during the last one year under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana during the Matru Vandana Saptah.
Social welfare and cooperation minister Nemcha Kipgen lauded the department for this feat and expressed that it was the concerted efforts of all concern officials, officers and line departments that such laurels are achieved for Manipur. She encouraged all to continue striving hard for the welfare of our state through the various schemes and programmes implemented by the government.
Nemcha on behalf of the department of social welfare, also extended gratitude to all the district commissioners, health department, banks, Post Office, DPO, CDPOs, supervisors, Anganwadi workers, helpers for their active participation.
In Manipur, a total number of 30,481 beneficiaries have been enrolled since the start of this scheme. Special enrolment help desk were opened during matru Vandana Saptah in all government hospitals, CHCs, PHCs, sub-centres and private hospitals for facilitating on spot registration for eligible beneficiaries under PMMVY.
The Matru Vandana Saptah is a week-long maternity benefit programme which was taken up under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) from December 2 to 8 last year to intensify the implementation of the scheme; create a healthy competition among state/Union teritories; and with districts for exemplary performance in implementation of PMMVY since its inception and during Matru Vandana Saptah. In Manipur, the Matru Vandana Saptah was observed till December 16 last as advised by chief minister N. Biren Singh.
The main objective of the PMMVY scheme is to provide incentives of five thousand rupees to pregnant women and lactating mothers for first living child of the family in three instalments for the loss of wages of working women and to ensure their proper rest and nutrition during pregnancy. The payment of the incentive amount is deposited directly into the bank account.
