Manipur government bans import of food items from China, Myanmar and other South East Asian countries

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, February 6, 2020: In view of the prevailing widespread infection of Novel Coronavirus precaution and for the safety of public, office of the food safety commissioner/directorate of health services, medical directorate, Manipur has banned import of packaged food items made in China, Myanmar and other South East Asian countries which does not comply the Food Safety And Standards ( Import) Regulations, 2017.
A government notification released on Thursday said “No person shall import any article of food without an import license from the Central Licensing Authority in accordance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards ( Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Regulations, 2011”.
As per the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 under Section 23(1), “No person shall manufacture, distribute, sell or expose for sale or dispatch or deliver to any agent or broker for the purpose of sale, any packed food products which are not marked and labelled in the manner as may be specified by regulations”, the government notification said.
All the designated officers in the state have been directed for inspection, seize and
to keep keen vigilance in the interest of public health. Non- compliance of this notification will be viewed seriously, it added.
