MOMA opens its fifth organic store in Manipur


Pothashang News Service: Imphal, February 15, 2020: Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) has opened its fifth organic outlet at Tusii Nganii Khumai (TNK) Village, Senapati district on Saturday.

The outlet was inaugurated by horticulture and soil conservation minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar

It is the first organic outlet in the hill district to be opened by the Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) under the aegis of horticulture and soil conservation separtment.

Horticulture and soil conservation department aims to open such kind of outlets in every district so that the organic produces which are available in the interior areas of every district can be collected and sold at an appropriate place, Shyamkumar said.

People are now adopting for a healthy lifestyle and opting for chemical free food products. Sensing the need of the hour, the department is working sincerely to open more such organic outlets and provide benefits of other schemes to beneficiaries in order to increase the livelihood of the people as well to avail organic produces to everyone, he added.

The produces which are unavailable in a particular district can be sold at organic outlets by bringing the produces from another district, he said.

MOMA project director K. Debadutta Sharma said since 2016, organic scheme under the ministry of agriculture and farmers’ welfare, has been continuously implemented in the state. Under the scheme, the department identified some of the organic food products which were then processed, branded and sold outside the state. Opening of organic outlet will surely give awareness the masses which can further help our society to become healthier and to keep serious diseases at bay, he added.

“The organic outlet opened today will help the 1,500 organic farmers of Senapati district in selling their products,” he said.

If the Centre continues the scheme, such organic outlets will be opened in district headquarters mainly Churachandpur, Ukhrul and Tamenglong districts, he added.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Senapati district, John Sha appealed all to go organic and use bio-fertilizers to become sustainable. He expressed that the opening of organic outlet will be a beginning step for Senapati district to become a sustainable.
